Every year, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) not only showcases the best in world cinema, but serves as a launching pad for those movies we’ll be seeing on the red carpet come award season. The one film that everyone was talking about this year was Everybody Knows (Todos Los Saben), the latest from Persian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi. After winning two Academy Awards for Best Foreign film—A Separation in 2011 and The Salesman in 2016—Farhadi has moved to Spain for his psychological thriller with Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Ricardo Darín. After Laura (Cruz) and her family returns to Spain from Argentina for her sister’s wedding, the celebration takes a emotional turn when Laura’s older daughter is kidnapped.
